Risk & KYC
Setting up Risk & KYC
Welcome. Risk & KYC is the module that lets you collect ID documents from customers, score the risk of each rental, and have your team approve or reject before high-value gear leaves the shop.
Once set up, customers complete the whole KYC themselves through a private link on their phone — you don't have to chase them with WhatsApp messages and email attachments.
Where to find it
In the main app, click the Settings gear icon in the top-right corner. On the left panel, under Module Settings, click Risk & KYC.
You'll see five pages listed underneath:
- Settings — the master switch and approval rules
- Document Checklist — what IDs to ask for
- KYC Questions — extra questions to gather context
- Risk Factors — what makes a customer safe or risky
- Approver Fields — notes your team fills in during review
How to set it up
Setup takes about an afternoon for most businesses. You can build everything calmly while the module is switched off, then flip it on when you're ready.
The full setup is broken into these articles — work through them in order:
- Configuring documents — what IDs and certificates customers must upload.
- Configuring questions — extra context questions for the customer.
- Designing your risk scoring — the most important page. Decides how customers are scored.
- Configuring approver fields — custom fields your team fills in during review.
- Triggering KYC on the right products — marking which product categories actually require KYC.
Then two articles that explain how it works once it's live:
- How customers experience KYC — what your customer sees on their phone.
- Reviewing a submitted KYC — how your team approves or rejects.
Before you start
A few things worth having on hand:
- Your document checklist. Which IDs do you ask new customers for today?
- A starting risk policy. What makes you trust a customer?
- Who approves what. One or two people on your team to sign off.
First time vs everyday use
Most of the articles above are about first-time setup — things you do once. Once that's done, day-to-day use is simple: when a customer tries to rent KYC-required gear, your team clicks Send KYC link, the customer fills it in on their phone, a reviewer approves or rejects, and the rental proceeds. The two “how it works” articles cover that side.
Ready to begin?
Head to Configuring documents — that's the first real step. The Settings page's master switch can stay off the whole time you're configuring; flip it on at the end.
